Established in 1847, The Anglican Diocese of Adelaide is comprised of over 75 worship centres across 59 parishes and is one of 23 dioceses that constitute the Anglican Church of Australia. Based in North Adelaide, the growing team is led by the Registrar and Secretary of Synod and is responsible to the Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Adelaide.
Supporting sustained growth and ensuring good governance and order, the position of In House Legal Counsel now presents for a qualified and committed professional who will be responsible for the provision of organisational and strategic support to the work of the Executive Officer of the Diocese as well as Anglican Funds Management. You will ensure the effective and efficient management of the Synod’s legal matters, identify and manage legislation changes and mitigate risk, and provide effective support to clergy and parishes in the development, implementation and management of the Diocesan strategic directions, policies and procedures.
Reporting to the Registrar & Secretary of Synod you will ensure that Synod’s governance is consistent and compliant with legislation and with Synod’s Constitution and Ordinances. You will provide independent legal advice and support to the Synod and collaborate with external legal advisors as required. Internally, this position will be titled Governance Manager and Deputy Registrar.
The successful candidate will have an understanding of the not-for profit sector as well as the purpose, mission and structures of complex multi-entity institutions. A high level of business administration skills to deal effectively across the Diocese is important. Formal qualifications in law are essential and you will be a communicant member of the Anglican Church, Flourishing and United in God’s Love.
