Election Synod

The Synod of the 43rd Triennium was convened on 3-4 December 2016 for the purpose of electing the 10th Archbishop of Adelaide.

This session was be an Election Synod as per Section 6 of the Election of a Bishop Ordinance.


Due to the confidential nature of the reports, they are not provided digitally. The Business Session of an Election Synod was closed, and only members and officers of the Synod may be present except by special leave of the Synod.

No member or officer of the Synod shall at any time disclose any information concerning the proceedings of an Election Synod or the names of the candidates or the details of any ballot.

The outcome of the Synod was the election of Bishop Geoffrey Smith, Assistant Bishop/General Manager and Registrar of the Diocese of Brisbane, Queensland as the 10th Archbishop of Adelaide.
