Clergy Long Service Leave

Clergy are entitled to long service leave (LSL). Long Service Leave for clergy is managed by the Anglican Long Service Leave Fund, a national program which allows clergy to move between parishes and diocese whilst maintaining their long service leave entitlement.

Summary

• Clergy accrue 1 week of LSL for every year of service.
• Clergy may apply to take LSL after 10 years of service.
• Applications must be made to the Archbishop, at least three months prior to the period of leave
• When leave is taken, the clergy person is paid their normal stipend and allowances, plus a Supplementary Payment from the LSL Fund.
• The parish or entity which pays the stipend will receive a lump sum payment to reimburse the cost of providing a locum

• Treasurers: The cost of LSL for 2022 is $1596 per clergy person, invoiced monthly.
• Leave payments from the Fund are made to the Diocese which will transfer the lump sum payment to the parish, and the Supplementary payment to the clergy RPE account.

Governance

Long Service Leave is a national program, administered by participating Diocese. The Long Service Leave Fund is an agency of General Synod, and established by the Long Service Leave Canon 2010.
